From S60 3rd Edition, which is based on Symbian OS 9, a user can install only signed applications, whereas there are a lot of ‘unsigned’ applications floating around the web, partly because part time developers either do not have the time or money to get their applications signed via the Symbian Signed program. While quite a bit of such applications can be signed via the Open Signed website, some cannot be and quite frankly there are times when we are simply lazy. For all such reasons it is best to have a developer certificate with which you can sign the files on the phone itself and install without having to bother with any other method.
The following tutorial will show you how to get a certificate (generally within three hours) and is much easier than the OPDA method:

hi! i've followed your steps and it works! thank you very much..by the way, does the cer key have limited time? i've tried to translate the text in the screen where it said that the cer key is ready for download, and it says the certificate is valid until july, 16, 2012.. what does it mean? does it mean we will have to find another key in 2012 or it will be ready for us to download until that date? thank you..
After 6 or 8 h, i recieved my file. But it had 2 options to dowload. The first called Signtool2.zip is about 950Kb, with signtool.exe inside, the second called Signtool.zip is about 3.4 Mb, with signtool.exe and signsis.exe. Please tell me how i can get my cer :( Thank you.
